The susceptibility areas are based on the areas given in McCahon, 2013, Liquefaction Hazard in Timaru District (Environment Canterbury report R13/29), which were mainly based on 1:250,000 geological map units, with some groundwater and test pit information in urban areas.

The boundaries of the susceptibility areas have been modified using 1:50,000 topographic maps and lidar where available (Timaru township area and the Canterbury Plains), and are accurate to 1:50,000 for most of the district and approximately 1:10,000 in Timaru township. In some areas, new polygons have been added to delineate Holocene or Pleistocene sediment as per the 1:250,000 geological map units, where these were previously shown as rock or hill soils in the 2013 dataset. This includes areas along Taitarakihi Creek and the heads of Waimataitai Valley and Saltwater Creek in Timaru township.

The susceptibility areas have been renamed from the 2013 names to be consistent with Table 1.1 of the 2017 Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment guidance Planning and engineering guidance for potentially liquefaction-prone land. Fields have also been added providing suggested levels of geotechnical liquefaction investigations that should be undertaken in each area for different activities (subdivision, important infrastructure, and building consents) to determine the liquefaction hazard and appropriate mitigation measures, if required. These are also based on the 2017 MBIE guidance (Tables 3.6 and 3.7).

This dataset has been reviewed by Ian McCahon, author of the 2013 liquefaction report.

Description: Road Centreline - Layer 818: NZ Road Centre line (Electoral) & Table 2024: Road NameA linear geometry in this layer will consist of the individual road section geometries (as opposed to the NZ Roads (Addressing) layer where these have been aggregated). This layer has been simplified from LINZ’s NZ Roads database, a centralised database for the management of national road data. The comprehensive set of NZ Roads tables is also available. This layer contains the core attributes of a road section to support simple searching with locality and territorial authority or provide a road name context for cadastral data views. This dataset is updated monthyly.

Description: Land Parcels - Layer 772: NZ Primary ParcelsThis layer provides the current primary parcel polygons and some associated descriptive data that details the appellation (legal description), purpose, size and a list of titles that have an interest in the parcel.A primary parcel is a portion of land that is intended to be :• owned by the Crown, except moveable marginal strips• Held in fee simple ((predominately private ownership)• Maori freehold land or Maori customary land• Public foreshore and seabed• The bed of a lake or river• Road or Railway• Vested in a local authorityPrimary parcels can be thought of as the 'base level' of the 'jigsaw puzzle' of all land making up New Zealand. The dataset is updated monthly.
