Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolyline

Description: Specific line indicating Road HierarchyGrouping: - District Wide mattersSub Group: - TransportSymbology Specifications: - "Line", Timaru District road network hierarchy.A road hierarchy differentiates between roads by function. Roads at the top of a road hierarchy are generally arterial routes that cater for through traffic and often have high traffic volumes and operate at high speeds. Roads at the lower end of a road hierarchy tend to have a local access function and may have lower volumes or speed environments.Ideally roads should connect into roads at the same level in the road hierarchy or one level above or below them in hierarchy. This promotes network efficiency by ensuring each road performs the function for which it is designed that intersections operate efficiently and that, so far as practiable, through traffic and local traffic and separated and managed to minimise conflict.A number of different road hierarchies are possible and there are no standard versions. This Layer was rolled over from the Previous District Plan layer & was updated in August of 2020 for the District Plan 2020
